Trainees aboard a 40 foot sloop to learn about the fine art of sailing received additional help from an unexpected source yesterday (Sunday) evening: the RNLI.
With its engine broken down and unable to make progress in a strong tide because of lack of wind, the Emerald Star sought assistance through HM Coastguard. Cowes lifeboat quickly responded to the call, launching at 8.50 pm, and found the yacht drifting in the vicinity of South Bramble Buoy.
The Emerald Star, based in Gosport and with five people aboard, was towed into Cowes Yacht Haven. The lifeboat returned to station at 9.45 pm.
