Suspected Heart Attack Alarm Leads to Lifeboat Launch

18th November 2014

Cowes lifeboat was launched this afternoon after coastguards were alerted that a man aboard a craft in the western Solent had suffered a suspected heart attack.

The catamaran White Maiden had been charted in Lymington to take a group of anglers fishing. The lifeboat was launched at 4.24 pm and discovered that the fishing boat had managed to reach Cowes Harbour under its own power.

When the boat came alongside Trinity Landing lifeboat crew member Andrea Vaughan went aboard with a First Aid kit, and was quickly joined by paramedics from an ambulance previously summoned to The Parade. The man, who was of mature years and conscious, was eventually taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
