Penny started volunteering at the station in October 2012 when she was invited to see if she could fill the vacancy for an Administrator. This was a timely vacancy. She was looking for a new challenge as she had just completed a 7 year adventure on a 37ft sailing yacht covering some 20000 sea miles involving travelling from Cowes to the Canadian Great Lakes. Despite so much time at sea, there had been no need to call emergency services but was glad to know the RNLI was available in UK waters. Penny was easily persuaded to take on an additional role as Shore Crew and also to help out with station and school visits. In early 2015 she took on the role of Visits Officer, coordinating all visits to and from the station.
