Cowes Lifeboat Station is run entirely by volunteers from all walks of life. We have a doctor, pilot, office workers and even a globe maker! Our crew are relied upon by sailors and users of the Solent 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Launch Authorities

The Launch Authorities take it in turns to be ‘on duty’ 24 hours a day – they are in charge of the lifeboat when it’s on dry land. When the pager goes off, they decide if the lifeboat can launch.

Lifeboat Helms

The Helm is in overall command of the lifeboat once it touches the water – they coordinate the crew, and make sure the lifeboat carries out the rescue successfully and safely.
