Mother and Children Rescued by Cowes Lifeboat

19th August 2018

Lifeboat crew members attend to the mother and children amongst the rocks.

A mother and two children were rescued by Cowes RNLI lifeboat this afternoon
after being cut off by the incoming tide between Gurnard and Thorness beach.

The mother, with a girl aged seven and a boy of 13, summoned help when the only
shore above the water-line were huge rocks below an overgrown cliff.

The lifeboat, launched at 3.08 pm, found them rather fatigued and conveyed them to
Gurnard Luck; there Needles Coastguard took them in their vehicle back to Thorness
Bay Holiday Centre where they were staying.

The lifeboat returned to station at 3.50 pm.
