Lifeboat Switches From Routine to Emergency Mode

7th August 2014

What was intended to be a routine trip up the River Medina by Cowes Lifeboat to refuel yesterday evening, following a Cowes Week exercise, turned into something more serious when it responded to an emergency request from Solent Coastguards.

They had received a call from a 17 foot open motorboat, G-Force, reporting mechanical problems while on passage from Cowes to Calshot, with a couple and a young boy aboard.

Cowes lifeboat located the craft anchored some 100 metres off Lepe Spit at 5.28 pm and towed it to Medina Yard, Cowes where a mechanic was waiting to assess the problem. The lifeboat returned to station at 6.39 pm.
