Lifeboat Helps Fishermen with a Sinking Feeling

28th August 2016

A lone yachtsman and an RNLI lifeboat became two anglers catch of the day when their boat needed help in the Solent yesterday (Saturday).

The men aboard the 18 foot Wicky Woo had reported they had engine trouble and were drifting off Norris Point near East Cowes.

It was a single yachtsman aboard a passing 33 foot yacht that first arrived on the scene. But when, as the fishing boat was being towed by him to Cowes Harbour, it took on water, Cowes lifeboat was hurriedly dispatched.

The lifeboat took over the tow at Castle Point and duly delivered the fishing boat to a mooring off the Folly in the River Medina. There the anglers were met by members of Newport Coastguard.

The lifeboat launched at 3.32 pm and returned to station at 5.16 pm.
