12th May 2015

The half finished new breakwater at the mouth of Cowes Harbour totally confused the crew of a French yacht last night when they sought help after their engine failed Web Site.

Having a chart that did not show the new gravel bank, the crew’s initial communications could not categorically pinpoint whether the yacht was off Castle Point, Calshot or Old Castle Point, East Cowes.

Finally all did became clear and the yacht, the 34 foot Vincentina with two men and two women aboard, was towed to Trinity Landing, Cowes by the local RNLI lifeboat.

The lifeboat, which had launched at 9.30 pm, returned to station at 9.57 pm.
