A lone yachtsman who reported he had lost his tiller this afternoon eventually received assistance from Cowes lifeboat.
The man aboard the 22 foot Swallow told Solent Coastguards that he had lost steerage in the Solent just north west of Beaulieu River. The lifeboat found the yacht had anchored to await assistance, and it was towed to safety in the river.
Having launched at 2.38 pm, the lifeboat returned to the station nearly two hours later.
