Clothing Find Leads to Extensive Solent Search

9th December 2016

The discovery of a full set of men’s clothing on the beach at Cowes sparked an extensive Solent search by the local lifeboat this morning.

The clothes were reported this morning to be on the beach near Egypt Point.

Launched at 10.10 am, the lifeboat searched the sea from Cowes Harbour to Newtown Creek. At the same time the shoreline was searched by Newport coastguards.

Meanwhile a Cowes Harbour launch searched eastwards to Osborne Bay, in case someone had been taken in that direction by an earlier tide.

But nothing was found by any of the searchers, and the lifeboat returned to station at 11.30 am.
