A report of two boys seemingly in trouble in the sea off Cowes sparked a rescue emergency this morning, involving the local RNLI lifeboat and the Lee on Solent-based coastguard helicopter.
But the ‘boys’, spotted in the water some 150 metres off Egypt Point, were found to be actually buoys, thought to serve markers for lobster pots on the sea bed.
The lifeboat, launched at 10.52 am, returned to station at 11.37 am.
